Work as a Meter Maintenance Technician for Haltom City and spend your days in the great outdoors (of course it is only great when the Texas extremes are not in place – but at least you will drive an air-conditioned or heated vehicle between jobs the rest of the year). Working in the field, you will be driving throughout the City responding to water-related work orders. A typical day might include turning water on/off for customers as needed, researching meter issues, talking to customers in the field who need assistance, changing out curb stops, meter boxes, handle leak detection, use a computer to read meters that the automated system missed, install and/or remove meters. This job is very physical and some days you will get dirty. You will spend most of your day in the field driving throughout Haltom City responding to work orders which means you will be in and out of your vehicle all day. When you have to turn off the water for a customer, you may encounter upset customers and you must be able to deal with customers who are upset while still accomplishing your job. Can you imagine how upset you would be if your water got turned off while you were washing your hair? Customer service is important in this position because while in the field you will be representing Haltom City. If you avoid conflict at all costs, this job might not be a good match for you - we believe a realistic idea of what the job entails will make sure the position is a good fit for you. Basic computer skills are needed as you will input data for work orders and enter numbers for meter reads.
