Alaska's News Source is an award-winning, dominant number-one station looking for an experienced, licensed meteorologist for this critical part-time role, one we lean on to cover unfilled schedules as needed. The ideal candidate has broadcast meteorology and digital experience, a comfortable on-air appearance, a climate reporting skill set, and be able to break down complex weather data into easy-to-understand broadcast and online weathercasts, written stories, and multimedia weather content for digital platforms. We are looking for a proven Meteorologist with a passion for the career field and experience on broadcast and digital platforms, but with a schedule that is flexible to help us fill shifts both in advance and at the last-minute whenever needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in broadcast and multimedia news content generation
  • Ability to write for broadcast news and digital platforms
  • Ability to visualize and create weather graphics
  • Understanding of principal journalistic ethics
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Willingness and ability to work in extreme weather conditions while reporting on breaking weather events

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the WSI weather system and software is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Analyze weather data and prepare detailed and engaging weather forecasts
  • Generate creative and engaging, content-driven live shots
  • Familiarity with the WSI weather system and software is a plus
  • Ability to drive long-form severe weather/event coverage solo or in a team setting, both in the studio and in the field
  • Ability to multitask, handle breaking weather/events, and adapt to rapidly changing developments
  • Cover other meteorologists' shifts, as assigned, as well as the flexibility to cover shifts during severe weather/events
  • Post daily stories to our digital platforms and social media, including online weather discussions to explain complex weather phenomena in an easy-to-understand format
  • Be actively involved on the station's social media platforms and responsive to viewer inquiries
  • Represent Alaska's News Source at community and station-sponsored events, including school presentations and station tours
  • Record shortened daily weathercasts for radio partners
  • Work closely with the Chief Meteorologist, news management, photographers, and newscast producers to deliver exceptional weather coverage and regular reporting
