Job Summary: The Metallurgist will support the Laboratory/Technical Department in checking the metallurgical quality of products, determine solutions to metallurgical process/field problems and implement these solutions economically, timely and safely, and be a key member on APP teams that are developing, evaluating and improving products and processes

Requirements

  • Wear proper Personal Protection Equipment in work area at all time.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
  • In compliance with ITAR regulations, must be a US Citizen or US Person.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or a related field (i.e. Materials Engineering)
  • 1 - 5 years working in a metallurgical plant experience working with heat-treatable aluminum alloys in a production environment
  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment or shop floor quality management system experience.
  • Fast and continuous learning skills to become highly knowledgeable in aluminum alloy microstructures, heat treating processes and destructive and non-destructive testing.
  • Self-starter, self-managed and strong time management skills.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Working knowledge of the aluminum heat treat processing.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, Six Sigma Processes and/or QS9000 systems, as well as knowledge of quality techniques, such as FMEA, PPAP, and APQP.
  • Knowledge of product requirements from commercial and aerospace customers.
  • Strong familiarity with destructive and non-destructive testing.
  • Strong written and oral communication and presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • CAD/Solid Works experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Metallurgical support on product quality and customer quality concerns.
  • Analyze test data and develop rework instructions for product failing to meet metallurgical requirements.
  • Assist in resolution of issues with outside metallurgical labs and processors.
  • Assist in resolution of issues with raw material suppliers.
  • Interpret customer and industry specifications.
  • Increase Metallurgical understanding of processes.
  • Process development.
  • Work with the heat treat department to troubleshoot and expedite product movement.
  • Statistical analysis of process parameters.
  • Function in a Team environment.
  • Evaluate and bring to management's attention new materials, processes or modifications of current process that will maintain the desired quality while reducing the total cost of the product.
  • Support manufacturing in the processing of forgings through all operations.
  • Maintain customer relationships through joint resolution of issues.
  • Ensure adherence to all process specifications.
  • Support the Plant quality system goals / improvements & productivity goals / improvements within the scope of the job.
