Requirements

Associate’s Degree from a two-year college or technical school, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Previous experience using a scanning electron microscope and stereoscope.
Previous experience working in a similar lab environment.
Basic computer skills – including proficiency in basic operating systems.

Responsibilities

Examines and tests metal samples using a scanning electron microscope and/or a stereoscope to determine their physical properties.
Tests samples to determine strength, hardness, elasticity, toughness, or other properties of metal and documents fracture surfaces.
Polishes or etches metal specimens and photographs samples, using a photomicroscope, or directs photography technical personnel to take, develop, and mount photomicrographs.
Performs chemical analysis on parts.
Performs audits and tests on products.
Writes simple reports.
