About The Position

The Metal Shop Supervisor leads and coordinates all primary manufacturing activities in a precision metal fabrication environment, ensuring efficient production, strict adherence to safety standards, and delivery of high-quality components. This role manages a team operating CNC machining centers, press brakes, turret presses, welding, and related equipment while driving continuous improvement and maintaining compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years experience, with 3 years in production supervision, preferably in metal fabrication, including CNC machining and press brake operations.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and setup documentation.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and quality control processes.
  • Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and metal fabrication processes.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods and lift up-to 50 lbs. occasionally
  • Willing to work overtime and Saturday hours as needed

Nice To Haves

  • CNC mill programming, turret press setup, press brake setup
  • Knowledge of MIG/TIG welding and sheet metal fabrication
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor metal shop personnel.
  • Ensure all staff are well trained in their primary job function.
  • Assign tasks based on production schedules and skill levels, ensuring balanced workloads.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Plan and coordinate material usage for maximum yield and minimal waste.
  • Oversee machine setup, tooling, and operation
  • Ensure compliance with engineering drawings, setup documentation, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate production records and coordinate workflow between departments.
  • Enforce proper use of PPE: safety glasses, shoes, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats when required.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and ensure compliance with posted safety signage.
  • Lead safety audits and participate in monthly safety committee meetings.
  • Verify all products produced meet quality & engineering requirements.
  • Address non-conforming products promptly and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for quality checks and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce scrap, and enhance safety.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize processes and implement lean manufacturing practices.
