Role The Messaging and Collaboration Engineer is responsible for driving the design, evolution, and strategic direction of Blackstone’s global Messaging and Collaboration ecosystem. This role emphasizes architecture, engineering, and cross-functional partnership rather than routine operational support. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong capabilities in requirements gathering, solution design, and the implementation of robust, scalable, and secure collaboration services aligned with business objectives. This position plays a critical role in shaping platform standards, advancing cloud-first strategies, and ensuring solutions are designed with high availability, disaster recovery, observability, and long-term sustainability in mind. Many of the services supported by this team include components across both Azure and AWS environments. Experience with these platforms, or a demonstrated willingness to learn them, is required. The ideal candidate brings significant experience with enterprise messaging services and has contributed meaningfully to the design and implementation of large-scale collaboration platforms. Given the pace and complexity of the financial services environment, this role values adaptability, continuous learning, and thoughtful problem-solving alongside technical expertise.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience gathering business and technical requirements and translating them into detailed engineering designs.
  • Proven experience designing highly available, resilient, and observable enterprise platforms.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 services, including but not limited to: Exchange Online, Microsoft Teams (governance, lifecycle management, app permissions),SharePoint Online (site architecture, integrations, automation)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance capabilities, including Microsoft Purview (eDiscovery, retention, audit, and information governance).
  • Understanding of Microsoft Entra External Identities, including B2B collaboration, guest access controls, and cross-tenant access.
  • Hands-on experience with PowerShell and modern automation frameworks; familiarity with Microsoft Graph API is a plus.
  • Experience designing or enhancing monitoring, alerting, and telemetry for cloud services.
  • Familiarity with email security ecosystems (e.g., Proofpoint, Mimecast) and identity and security integrations.
  • Strong communication skills in order to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture & Solution Design Lead requirements-gathering sessions with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
  • Architect secure, resilient, and high-performing messaging and collaboration platforms with consideration for: High availability, Disaster recovery and business continuity, Monitoring, alerting, and system observability
  • Design technical roadmaps and contribute to long-term strategy for Messaging and Collaboration services across Microsoft 365 and hybrid environments.
  • Partner with Engineering, Security, and Architecture teams to develop and support global standards, governance, and lifecycle management practices.
  • Engineering & Implementation Engineer and deploy new capabilities across Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, and related Microsoft 365 collaboration services.
  • Develop automation and orchestration solutions to reduce operational overhead and support consistent, secure configuration management.
  • Conduct design reviews, validate solution architecture, and ensure alignment with established technical best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend enhancements to improve user experience, security posture, and platform efficiency.
  • Operational Enablement Develop and deliver operational documentation, training materials, runbooks, and knowledge resources for Service Desk and Operations teams.
  • Provide advanced engineering support for complex or escalated issues while enabling operational teams to manage standard support workflows.
  • Coordinate vendor escalations and maintain key technical relationships.
  • Governance & Compliance Define and support governance models for Teams lifecycle management, app permissions, SharePoint configurations, and broader Microsoft 365 security and compliance controls.
  • Ensure solutions align with IT governance standards, information security policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
