About The Position

The Merchandising Manager is responsible for leading product development and merchandising efforts across assigned categories and accounts, with a focus on building compelling, consumer-driven assortments that drive revenue growth and margin expansion.  This role manages all stages of the merchandising lifecycle—from concept and design through costing, packaging, and commercialization— ensuring products meet design, pricing, and profitability targets while aligning with brand and customer requirements. The Merchandising Manager works closely with internal cross-functional teams and overseas sourcing offices to ensure timely development of products.  Also serves as a liaison between Marketing, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Quality departments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, Textile Science, or a related field is preferred
  • Minimum of 3-5+ years of experience in merchandising, product development, or category management, preferably in textiles, home goods, or consumer products
  • Proven experience managing product lifecycle from concept to commercialization, including costing and margin management
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in using sales, margin, inventory, and market data to drive product decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams, including sourcing, manufacturing, marketing, and sales
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience preparing presentations and product briefings
  • Experience working with overseas suppliers and global sourcing teams preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and familiarity with ERP software (NetSuite preferred)
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop informed, consumer-first product assortments and new product concepts, including design and costing, category, brand, and channel requirements to maximize omni-channel consumption and driving both revenue and margin growth in alignment with organizational goals
  • Collaborate with the Merchandising leadership and Sales teams to define appropriate price points, product lines, and assortments that support profitable sales growth
  • Develop materials and present product briefings to Merchandising, Sales, Marketing, and Ecommerce teams to identify assortment gaps and growth opportunities
  • Balance the varied goals and preferences of brands, accounts, and key stakeholders to inform assortment recommendations and decisions
  • Leverages sales, margin, inventory, and productivity data in partnership with Sales and Business Planning teams to make data-driven recommendations
  • Act as a liaison between Marketing, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to ensure smooth execution of product strategies
  • Work with the Sourcing, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to reconcile problems and address issues
  • Partner with global sourcing offices and suppliers to manage specifications, sample development, and costing accuracy
  • Manage the full product lifecycle for assigned accounts and assortments
  • Facilitate requirements for new components from inception to finished product
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive customer specification guides, ensuring accuracy and currency of product information
  • Conduct in-line product adjustments, including re-costing or re-developing due to material cost fluctuations, to maintain product margins
  • Organize, review, label, and ship samples to merchants and buyers as required
  • Oversee packaging ideation, review, and implementation in collaboration with relevant teams
  • Initiate and manage internal item setups to support new product launches
  • Serve as Document Manager on the shared drive, maintaining merchandising documentation and data integrity
  • Support Sales and Marketing teams by contributing to presentations that showcase assortments and growth opportunities
  • Respond to retailer and internal team requests for detailed product, project, and assortment information
  • Support Sales teams in presenting new products, brainstorming innovative ideas, and identifying actionable customer-focused solutions
  • Organize and direct photography needs with the Marketing team to support product presentations and marketing materials
