The Merchandising Associate is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the receiving, storage, visual merchandising, and allocation of store inventory to the stores. Performs order entry, order confirmation, inventory maintenance data entry and duties of Sales Associate position, as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be high school graduate, or equivalent, with minimum 1 year of Stockroom and/or retail experience.
  • Must have good verbal communication, customer relations and organizational skills.
  • Must have basic computer skills to use the Siriusware Inventory Management System.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to responsibly handle store invoices, financial reports, cash and credit card transactions and balance a cash drawer.
  • Operate label printers, dolly, flat bed/ hand cart.
  • Must have good physical stamina and the mental and emotional stability necessary to deal effectively in a busy retail environment.
  • Job involves walking, standing for long periods of time, bending, lifting of heavy objects and packages and packing and unpacking of boxes ranging from 20 to 60 pounds. Weekend and evening hours may be required.
  • The following PA Act 153 clearances, or proof of application of clearances, are required beginning employment and as a condition of continued employment: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check Obtaining the required clearances is completed as part of the new hire process.

Responsibilities

  • Unpacks merchandise shipments, counts and verifies accuracy of shipments against packing lists or invoices. Records discrepancies in shipments.
  • Performs merchandise receiving process, ensuring quality control.
  • Under the direction of the Buyer Manager verifies appropriate markup is achieved on all merchandise to ensure profitability.
  • Prices merchandise according to receiving document.
  • Provides instructions to sales staff on other pricing and coding of merchandise as needed.
  • May maintain daily/weekly sales reports and review trial balance for accuracy as directed.
  • Performs end of month reporting and assists in doing biannual inventories.
  • Processes all paper work performed.
  • Works with Museum Store Manager to create in-store point of purchase displays and to maintain all visual merchandising needs in the store including restocking, fronting, organizing and removing damaged goods.
  • Inventories and maintains supply of store bags, boxes, and labels and orders as needed based on manager’s input.
  • Assures that supply and office area are maintained in an orderly fashion.
  • Reorders receiving area supplies as necessary with regard to quality and supply budget.
  • Maintains a clear understanding of the Sales Associate position and duties and performs all functions of the Sales Associate position on an as needed basis.
  • Contacts vendors for invoices and to resolve problems of damage and short shipment under supervision of the Store Manager.
  • Maintains file organization systems and files invoices and vendor information.
  • Displays courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with the public.
  • Projects the positive image and attitude of the Carnegie Museums.
