About The Position

MEP Technician II is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and service on the electrical - mechanical systems supporting the Data Center. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, with the ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair a wide range of building systems to ensure safe and efficient operations. Educate and train other TierPoint personnel on tasks related to the mechanical-electrical systems and components. Responsible for facility electrical/mechanical systems, documentation and ongoing service and support. The hours of this shift will be as follows: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency with the following:
  • Multi-module or single module UPS systems
  • Low and medium voltage switchgear
  • Low and medium voltage diesel generators
  • Raised floor or overhead bus power distribution
  • PLC controls and components
  • Exercise flexibility in challenging situations
  • Ability to read and analyze blueprints and construction drawings including one line diagrams
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to provide direction to Operations Technicians in absence of Management
  • Working knowledge of automated building control systems
  • Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of standards, practices and procedures of installing, testing and operating electrical and mechanical equipment. Usually works with limited supervision.
  • Strong proficiency with the following:
  • Datacenter HVAC and related components; ie CRAC/CRAH, chillers, cooling towers and rooftop units
  • Plumbing/Piping and related components
  • PLC controls and components
  • Proven proficiency in the operation of 100% uptime data centers, critical facilities environment or industrial power systems
  • Exercise flexibility in challenging situations
  • Excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills
  • Extensive experience with detailed record keeping and data entry accuracy
  • Ability to read and analyze blueprints and construction drawings including one-line diagrams
  • Working knowledge of automated building control systems
  • Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of standards, practices and procedures of installing, testing and operating electrical and mechanical equipment. Usually works with limited supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • 6 + years of technical training or related experience working in a mission critical building engineering operation.
  • 3 + years as a Journeyman Electrician or HVAC Technician with satisfactory or better performance plus three years of industry experience.
  • Associate degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, Engineering / Mechanical Technology, Construction Management, a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Current Journeyman or Master Electrician’s license or Universal CFC Refrigeration License in good standing with the local authorities or equivalent experience.
  • Technical training may be trade school or manufacturers training on UPS systems, medium voltage switchgear, low voltage power distribution units, building automation systems, 1.0 megawatt and larger engine-generator sets and/or large diesel engines, and other training directly related to the operation and maintenance of electrical / mechanical plant in a high reliability environment.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE, NEC and NFPA.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency in using MS Office Suite and Windows-based computer applications
  • Ability to use a ladder to work in elevated areas

Responsibilities

  • Provides high quality, accurate, consistent, and efficient work for internal and external customer service surrounding the Company values
  • Adopt and use defined systems, tools, procedures, processes, and standards
  • Proactively manage ticket queue for timely request and response completion
  • Manage and complete assigned projects and report progress
  • Update documentation in a timely and accurate manner
  • Perform all daily operational tasks
  • Installation and termination of network and communication wiring
  • Support and validate power infrastructure and deployment
  • Provide remote hands and eyes support for internal or external client issues
  • Ensure all aspects of the physical infrastructure are kept clean and orderly
  • Perform routine physical inspections for alarm identification and operational issues
  • Understand and follow escalation procedures
  • Adhere to security procedures and controls
  • Follow all safety guidelines and best practices
  • In emergency situations, dispatch technicians and or vendors, as needed, in the absence of Management.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced site personnel.
  • Installation and termination of network, access control and communication wiring and components
  • Record and maintain power metrics and other related details on a regular basis.
  • Installation of new equipment and removal of systems as required
  • Assist in the physical installation of computer equipment and components, cable tray, and cabling.
  • Other responsibilities as required.
  • Significant experience in operating, troubleshooting, repairing and assisting in performance on preventative maintenance of TierPoint’s electrical systems and components. These can include but are not limited to: Low and medium voltage switch gear, static transfer switches, power distribution units, remote power panels, branch circuits, large or medium voltage diesel generator systems, large UPS systems, building fire alarm / life safety, fire suppression systems and critical infrastructure monitoring systems.
  • Install and repair connectivity demarcation units for electrical and telecommunications circuitry.
  • Strong knowledge in all aspects of Data Center electrical operations.
  • Significant experience supporting HVAC and environmental operations
  • Operate, troubleshoot, repair and perform preventative maintenance on TierPoint’s mechanical systems and components. These can include but are not limited to: CRAC/CRAH units, condensing coils, rooftop units, chillers, cooling towers, and associated components for HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Strong knowledge in all aspects of Data Center mechanical operations.
