About The Position

Adolfson and Peterson Construction is currently hiring for a Director MEP for our Midwest Region based out of our office in Bloomington. This role will oversee the coordination and implementation of the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (MEP) on regional projects from design coordination through completion and close out.

Requirements

  • History of progressively more complex and in-depth experience with proven results in MEP including:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related field.
  • Director level requires 12+ years of MEP and commercial construction experience including 5+ years of design or project management experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and other 3D software.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards.
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to identify talent, create and develop teams, and build trust and engagement.
  • Capability to identify and capitalize on opportunities quickly; ability to maintain effective balance between strategic and tactical priorities.
  • Experience in driving accountability for financial and operational effectiveness, integrating and aligning efforts across department, monitoring results and tackling problems directly.
  • Ability to cultivate and grow lasting business relationships both internally and externally; able to negotiate and communicate complex concepts/business issues to a variety of audiences and have a proven track record of developing new business through an established network of relationships in the industry.
  • Ability to drive to the core of complex issues and provide insightful and constructive feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Take personal responsibility for working safely within an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) culture.
  • Oversee the MEP function in a region to ensure departmental goals and objectives are met.
  • Set vision and direction of the MEP team including financial goals, budget and financial results achieved.
  • Empower department members to engage in continuous improvement of processes, tools, and training.
  • Lead the MEP team to ensure appropriate department and individual workload as well as achievement of performance standards.
  • Coordinate projects to ensure appropriate subcontractors’ and client performance and communication.
  • Analyze and report financial performance of individual projects as well as the department’s overall performance.
  • Research and assess market trends and identify strategies for adding value to clients in the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing areas.
  • Assess need and gain approval for major asset acquisition.
  • Collaborate with and provide guidance to the MEP team, Project Managers, and Superintendents.
  • Ensure client satisfaction (owners, design teams, subcontractors).
  • Manage a team environment that fosters self-development, innovation, collaboration, and high- performance standards across all team members
  • Ensure safety is the top priority on all projects.
  • Inspire and empower team members to engage in stretch opportunities to gain knowledge and develop new skillsets.
  • Identify and develop talent to sustain and strengthen the business.
  • Build morale and engagement through leadership actions.
  • Design MEP team structure and manage individual and team performance to achieve department results.
  • Oversee the review of project plans for constructability and cost feasibility; complete project risk assessments.
  • Read and comprehend drawings and specifications, anticipating and advising on items not clearly depicted.
  • Provide direction on the resolution of MEP issues.
  • Oversee that the MEP function is collaborating with owner, project team, and quality control manager to ensure all MEP QA/QC standards and practices are met on all projects. This includes, contract quality, compliance testing and remediation, quality plans, and submittals as well as implementation, inspections, and jobsite safety.
