We are seeking a MEP Engineer to join our Rails and Transit team in San Francisco, CA. Under general direction, the Engineer III – Field Engineering & Project Management Consultant will provide field engineering and project management support for all phases of the UPS Replacement Project. The consultant will be dedicated to the UPS project for approximately 75% of their time, with up to 25% of their time supporting the District’s Power & Mechanical Engineering Group on other engineering and construction-related activities. The consultant applies full competency in conventional engineering practices and demonstrates a thorough understanding of how engineering drawings, specifications, and design intent are translated into constructed systems. The role requires independent judgment, coordination with multiple stakeholders, and regular presence at active construction sites. Your role UPS Replacement Project Support (Primary Assignment): Provide field engineering and project management support for construction activities associated with the UPS Replacement Project. Attend construction site activities and field inspections as required. Review and become familiar with design documents, IFC plans, specifications, and engineering drawings prior to and during construction. Monitor construction progress and prepare regular progress reports. Record deviations from approved designs and document them in progress reports. Coordinate all design deviations with Engineering and Construction teams. Prepare red-line markups and submit to Engineering for incorporation into record drawings. Assist with pre-construction surveys and other construction-related surveys as required. Prepare, coordinate, and participate in punch list walks and closeout activities. Update the project SharePoint site with construction progress documentation, reports, and related materials. Develop and maintain a project schedule, providing regular updates to the District. Prepare cost estimates, job budgets, and man-hour estimates when applicable. Develop lists of required materials, tools, and equipment. Coordinate procurement needs and provide procurement support as required. Power & Mechanical Engineering Group Support (Up to 25%): Provide engineering and construction support services independent of the UPS Replacement Project. Assist with planning, scheduling, and coordination of engineering and construction services on projects of moderate scope. Coordinate work with engineers, technical staff, construction personnel, and other disciplines. Support engineering investigations, planning efforts, and operational system evaluations. Perform other engineering-related tasks as directed by the District’s Power & Mechanical Engineering Group. General Responsibilities: Attend project meetings, coordination meetings, and technical reviews as required. Prepare or assist in the preparation of technical reports, plans, and documentation for review and approval. Uphold engineering ethics, professional standards, and District policies. Perform other duties as directed by the District or Technical Manager in support of project and departmental objectives. Complexity & Decision-Making: Performs work involving conventional engineering practices with potentially complex features such as conflicting design requirements, coordination challenges, or construction constraints. Most assignments are performed independently, with approval required for proposed plans and major deliverables. Exercises sound engineering judgment but does not sign or seal engineering documents. Coordination & Communication: Coordinates and may review the work of junior engineers, technicians, and support staff assisting with specific assignments. Interfaces regularly with senior technical professionals, technical managers, contractors, vendors, and regulatory or external stakeholders.
