About The Position

The MEP Engineer is a key member of the Project Team responsible for managing, coordinating, and overseeing the successful installation and commissioning Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Protection scopes throughout construction. This role combines traditional Project Engineer responsibilities with specialized technical coordination of MEP scopes, assisting the Project Manager in ensuring that quality, safety, schedule, and cost expectations are achieved. The MEP Engineer works with Architects, Consultants, Subcontractors, Clients, and Inspectors to resolve issues efficiently and provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 1-4 years of experience in commercial construction, mechanical contractor, or MEP engineering (general contractor experience preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • 1–4 years of experience in commercial construction, MEP engineering, or mechanical/electrical contracting (general contractor experience preferred)
  • Strong understanding of commercial building MEP systems and construction processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Build, Bluebeam, Excel, BuildingConnected, and familiarity with CMiC, Procore, or similar platforms preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Proactive, self-motivated, solutions-oriented, and eager to learn
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary Project Engineer for assigned MEP scopes
  • Coordinate project setup within Build and other project-related technology platforms
  • Review, track, and process MEP RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, ASIs, and bulletins
  • Assist the Project Manager in processing PCIs, subcontract change orders, and owner change orders
  • Assist with schedule coordination and sequencing of MEP work
  • Perform jobsite QA/QC inspections to verify installations comply with drawings, specifications, and codes
  • Walk the site regularly with Superintendents to resolve coordination conflicts and address schedule concerns
  • Participate in coordination meetings and resolve field issues related to MEP systems
  • Support commissioning, testing, and inspections in coordination with the commissioning authority and design team
  • Assist with functional testing, deficiency tracking, and resolution
  • Take progress photos and maintain electronic project records
  • Maintain MEP as-built drawings and record documentation
  • Provide on-site support for subcontractors, architects, inspectors, and commissioning agents
  • Review project drawings and MEP design documents for constructability, scope clarity, and coordination
  • Create and maintain submittal and close-out registers from project specifications and drawings
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs, cost estimating, budgeting, and value engineering for MEP systems
  • Develop and review MEP scope narratives and prepare bid packages for subcontractors
  • Coordinate and prepare agendas for MEP subcontractor pre-bid and kick-off meetings
  • Support bidding, leveling, and buyout of MEP subcontractors
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager and Superintendent to review SWPPP requirements, permitting needs, inspections, and site logistics related to MEP scopes
  • Assist in issuing Letters of Intent and Subcontract Agreements for MEP trades
  • Assist with training new Project Team Members on Blach processes and procedures
  • Create and manage MEP close-out registers
  • Collect and review O&M manuals, warranties, test reports, training documentation, and as-built drawings
  • Coordinate final inspections, commissioning completion, Owner turnover, and demobilization activities
  • Complete internal project close-out verification
