About The Position

The Mental Health Counselor will be responsible for collaborating with Emergency Department and/or Psychiatric Unit's interdisciplinary team to provide support for patients. The support provided and carried out will be at the direction and formal order of the clinical services team, to include but not limited to the Psychiatrist, LCSW, Physicians, NP's or PA.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling or related field

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for observing and interviewing the patient and collaborating with the clinical services team to assist in the development of the treatment plan for patients experiencing social, emotional or behavioral issues within the MVHS hospital facilities.
  • Manage psychiatric discharge planning & referrals, working within a team environment as needed.
  • Participate in regular, formal clinical supervision, in both individual & group format, provided by the Department Director or designee.
  • Monitor and maintain safety of patients in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
  • Maintain a physically safe environment.
  • Assist interdisciplinary team to structure and modulate the level of stimulation in the Unit
  • Identifies and reports changes in behavior that represent unsafe situations.
  • Provides respectful re-direction of unsafe behavior and limits high stimulation setting as appropriate.
  • Assist in arranging and conducting group programs and activities at the direction and formal order of the clinical services team, to include but not limited to the Psychiatrist, LCSW, Physicians, NP's or PA.
  • Develop and maintain supportive relationships with patients and families.
  • Identify specific needs of patients and families and incorporates into patient care as appropriate.
  • Record medical data and care provided in patient medical record in accordance with established documentation standards.
  • Serve as member of interdisciplinary team for assigned patients.
  • Assist in planning and implementing individual treatment plans as established by the clinical services team, and communicates patient status, observations, and recommendations to the treating provider and/or Department Director.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care team meetings.
  • Develop and maintains knowledge of current occupational practices and techniques through participation in professional organizations, attendance at workshops, in-service sessions, and other continuing education programs as appropriate for job duties.
  • Perform related duties as required.
