About The Position

This full-time opportunity at Valle Vista offers 40 hours per week, full benefits, and a 3:00pm to 11:30pm schedule providing care on our adolescent unit. There is an opportunity for overtime and to cover various shifts if interested. Dedicated to excellence and innovation in behavioral health care, Valle Vista Health System has been a leader in providing quality care for more than thirty years for children, adolescents and adults. Licensed by the State of Indiana and fully accredited by the Joint Commission, Valle Vista, is a 132-bed a mental health hospital and provides comprehensive treatment for a broad range of psychiatric disorders in a safe and comfortable setting. Our goal is to help people learn the skills and regain the confidence to function successfully at home, work, school, and in their communities. Mental Health Technicians provide direct care and supervision for residents, assure residents are kept safe, learn and practice appropriate hygiene and self-help skills, and are aware of rules and expectations. They act as a role model for residents, demonstrating effective problem solving and decision-making skills. They also assist in providing recreational and therapeutic activities for the residents, transporting residents to and from medical appointments, and assuring scheduled programming is carried out. Duties are performed in accordance with the ANA Standards of Practice for Psychiatric Mental Health Care, and facility mission, values, policies, and behavioral standards. Mental Health Technicians report to the Unit Coordinator under the direction of the Chief Nursing Officer.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or related field preferred
  • Six months to one year of experience working with a behavioral health in-patient population preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and intervening with patients for safety
  • Ensuring structured therapeutic milieu
  • Role modeling problem solving and healthy relationship skills
  • Providing direct care and supervision for residents

  • Helping residents learn and practice appropriate hygiene and self-help skills
  • Ensuring residents are aware of rules and expectations
  • Acting as a role model for residents, demonstrating effective problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Assisting in providing recreational and therapeutic activities for the residents
  • Transporting residents to and from medical appointments
  • Assuring scheduled programming is carried out
  • Performing duties as assigned in accordance with the ANA Standards of Practice for Psychiatric Mental Health Care, and facility mission, values, policies, and behavioral standards
