Job Summary Mass General Brigham Salem Hospital Psychiatry service includes 120 inpatient beds, child and adult PHPs, Neurodevelopment, IOP, and three very busy outpatient clinics. There is an extensive and full psychiatric service covering all levels of psychiatric care. MGB Salem qualifies for the federally sponsored loan forgiveness programs. MGB Salem Hospital is a member of the Mass General Brigham network that includes MGH, Brigham and Women’s, McLean, and other MGB institutions. Under the direction of the Sr. Mental Health Specialist and Nurse Director, the Mental Health Specialist (MHS) performs direct care to patients within the inpatient psychiatric units at MGB Salem Hospital. Responsibilities include providing effective mental health intervention to assigned patients, coordinating individual cases with the multidisciplinary team and the completion of related documentation to promote the recovery of patients. This individual represents Salem Hospital in a professional manner while adhering to and enforcing all Mass General Brigham & Salem Hospital policies and guidelines as well as federal regulations and program requirements. Qualifications The MHS participates in patient admissions, takes vital signs and meets with patients on a daily basis as assigned by the Registered Nurse, to provide therapeutic and supportive counseling. The MHS may assist patients to meet basic ADL needs. Duties may include providing behavioral interventions to manage patients as needed and demonstrate knowledge and ability to deploy less restrictive alternatives in managing agitated patients. The MHS may participate in patient restraints as directed by a licensed nurse. In addition, the MHS assists with group programming and may act as a group leader, observing and directing group therapy sessions. The MHS also participates in multi-disciplinary treatment team meetings and attends regularly scheduled staff meetings. The MHS performs other related duties as necessary and as directed by a Sr. MHS, Charge Nurse or Nurse Director.
