About The Position

The Mental Health Technician plays a crucial role in supporting students' emotional and behavioral well-being in a therapeutic public-school setting. This position focuses on preventative intervention by recognizing early signs of anxiety and distress, promoting emotional resilience, and equipping students with essential skills for academic and social success. The successful candidate will: Promote 21 st century educational excellence through the vigorous support of the mission and goals of The Woodstock Academy; Facilitate individual, departmental, and school excellence through the support of high-quality personnel, reinforcement of best instructional practices, encouragement of a culture of collaboration, and a focus on student learning; This role is integral in empowering students with the tools they need to succeed both academically and personally, ensuring they can navigate social and emotional challenges with confidence and resilience; Identify and assess students’ anxiety stages before significant escalation, implementing appropriate intervention strategies; Utilize preventative intervention techniques to support students in managing emotions effectively; Teach and reinforce emotional resiliency skills to help students navigate challenges; Support students in developing skills to become effective learners within a classroom environment; Foster critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in response to social adversity; Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other school staff to create a supportive learning environment; Provide one-on-one and group support to students as needed; Maintain accurate documentation of interventions and student progress; and Participate in professional development and training to stay informed on best practices in mental health support.

Requirements

  • Experience in mental health, education, psychology, or related (Associate’s degree; preferred Bachelors)
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and emotional regulation strategies
  • Ability to recognize early signs of emotional distress and implement appropriate interventions
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive school Knowledge of: Principles of Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions
  • Preventative crisis intervention protocol
  • Principles of Trauma Informed
