About The Position

The Mental Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting the care and treatment of individuals experiencing mental health challenges within healthcare and social assistance settings. This position involves working closely with licensed mental health professionals to implement treatment plans, monitor patient behavior, and provide compassionate support to promote recovery and well-being. The technician serves as a frontline caregiver, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients by observing and reporting changes in their condition. Through direct interaction, the technician helps patients develop coping skills and encourages participation in therapeutic activities. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the overall effectiveness of mental health services and the improvement of patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a state-approved mental health technician training program or relevant clinical experience.
  • Basic certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Ability to pass background checks and meet state-specific licensing or certification requirements.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or higher in psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Experience working in inpatient or outpatient mental health settings.
  • Certification as a Certified Psychiatric Technician (CPT) or equivalent.
  • Training in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of individualized treatment plans under the supervision of licensed mental health professionals.
  • Monitor and document patient behavior, emotional status, and physical health, promptly reporting any significant changes or concerns.
  • Provide direct care and support to patients, including assisting with daily living activities and facilitating therapeutic group sessions.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment by observing patient interactions and intervening when necessary to prevent harm.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to communicate patient progress and participate in care planning meetings.
