About The Position

University Health is seeking an enthusiastic Mental Health Technician to join their team on the Mental Health Unit. This role involves working closely with Licensed Nursing Staff to provide patient care and foster a positive, healing environment. The technician will assist patients with daily activities, contribute to maintaining a supportive, safe, and positive atmosphere, and perform a variety of duties ranging from clerical tasks to clinical support, all while using compassion to help patients feel at ease and supported.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must obtain BCLS certification within 120 days of hire (and keep it current for continued employment)
  • Clearance through the Family Care Registry
  • Completion of training as directed through orientation and/or by Leadership, Management, or Educators in the established timeline
  • Department orientation with classroom and clinical training equivalent to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) regulations—or meet specific background criteria as listed below:
  • Enrolled in a professional or practical nursing program and completed a fundamentals of nursing course
  • Was a nursing licensure candidate who failed to pass the state licensure exam in the past 3 years
  • Certified as a nursing assistant per state regulation
  • Certified or trained in UAP curriculum
  • Has documented experience as a nurse assistant, EMT, or surgical technician in the past 3 years
  • Completed UAP training in Missouri within the last 3 years
  • Completed a professional or practical nursing program outside the U.S. and awaiting licensure in this country
  • UAPs from staffing agencies must comply with training requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living (ambulation, feeding, etc.)
  • Previous mental health experience
  • BCLS certification
