About The Position

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Oregon State Hospital (OSH), Security program in Salem, Oregon has multiple career opportunities for a Mental Health Security Technician. In this role, you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling access points, assessing physical security, conducting video surveillance, and performing interior and exterior patrols to prevent security breaches and unauthorized access. Key duties also include emergency response, managing patient conduct, providing physical intervention, and restraining combative or violent patients. You will develop and implement security protocols, maintain knowledge of relevant laws, and provide transportation for patients for both in-house and off-campus appointments, utilizing restraints when necessary. The position requires preparing clear and concise incident reports, providing customer service to patients, staff, and visitors, assisting with patient admissions, processing mail, contacting Oregon State Police, distributing badges and keys, and collecting evidence for investigations. The Oregon State Hospital focuses on patient-centered psychiatric treatment for adults, aiming to help them recover and return to the community through services like psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, community outreach, and peer support.

Requirements

  • One year of experience providing security services; OR One year of experience providing direct care to patients in a mental health setting
  • Must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OHA criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment
  • Complete I-9 documentation and confirm authorization to work in the United States within three days of hire
  • Employment authorization and documentation is not contingent on sponsorship now or in the future

Nice To Haves

  • Mental Health or Hospital Experience – Understanding of mental health conditions, trauma informed care
  • Security or Law Enforcement Experience – relevant experience in security, law enforcement, or corrections
  • Security Camera / Alarm Monitoring Experience

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control access points
  • Assess physical security
  • Conduct video surveillance monitoring

  • Respond to emergencies, call for assistance, and manage patient conduct
  • Monitor patients' status, provide physical intervention assistance, and restrain combative or violent patients
  • Develop and implement security protocols and maintain knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to mental health security
  • Provide transportation for patients for inhouse as well as off campus outings and appointments, using restraints when necessary
  • Prepare clear and concise incident reports and other documents used to communicate details of all significant events
  • Provide customer service and support to all patients, staff, and visitors
  • Assist with patient admissions

  • Contact Oregon State Police as needed
