GENERAL FUNCTION: The Mental Health Program Coordinator, in support of, the Shelby County Division of Corrections, will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing mental health services for inmates within the facility. This position requires a deep understanding of mental health issues, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field.
Must be licensed eligible.
Three years of experience in behavioral health services, working in mental health program development and management, preferably in a correctional or similar setting.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise and mentor staff.
Excellent communication and people skills.
Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree preferred.
Licensed or certified in the appropriate discipline (e.g., Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist), preferred.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and implement mental health programs tailored to the unique needs of incarcerated individuals. Ensure programs align with evidence-based practices and regulatory requirements.
Provide clinical oversight and consultation to ensure high-quality mental health care delivery.
Conduct initial assessments and develop comprehensive treatment plans for inmates. Monitor treatment progress and adjust plans, as necessary.
Respond to mental health crises within the prison environment. Coordinate crisis intervention strategies and ensure timely responses to emergencies.
Collaborate with correctional staff, healthcare providers, and community organizations to coordinate mental health services. Provide training and educational workshops on mental health topics for staff and inmates.
Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of all mental health services provided. Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, policies, and procedures.
Evaluate program outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives. Monitor and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of mental health interventions.
