About The Position

The Mental Health Counselor serves within our ministry by providing counseling services based upon the client's personalized service plan goals and objectives The salary range for this role is inclusive of 3 levels of credentials: Master's Degree earned, Associate License earned, and Full Professional License earned. Please note that we determine a compensable starting rate based on Education, Licensure, and Experience.

  • Licensure (or active pursuit of licensure) is required for this role. All candidates and employees must remain in good standing with the State Board of Professional Counselors and be eligible to practice—either under approved supervision or with full licensure
  • Master’s Degree in one or more of the following: Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, or a related field that supports the requirements set by the State Board of Professional Counselors
  • New hires have 90 days to furnish the acceptance of their application for licensure from the state.
  • On-site supervision is provided & employees in a clinical mental health counseling role have 5 years to become fully licensed.
  • Strong Crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
  • Fluency in the DSM-5 and common diagnoses of the population served.
  • Knowledge and appropriate therapeutic boundaries for working with vulnerable populations.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding and adhere to all laws related to the mental health field ( i.e. Code of Ethics for Social workers, Code of Ethics for Counselors, etc.) which establishes standards for the relationship between clients/counselors
  • Strong oral communication skills required to effectively communicate with a broad range of individuals.
  • Strong written communication skills required to maintain quality documentation including all mandated forms in accordance to Atlanta Mission policy, state confidentiality, ADA and HIPPA laws.
  • Ability to prioritize all aspects of the job through time management and organizational skills while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical documents including but not limited to medical reports, psychological evaluations, and psychiatric diagnoses.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team dynamic to carry out a variety of critical and time-sensitive projects without detailed instructions.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals to collect the necessary information
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  • Position requires remaining stationary for long periods of time and to move and walk to various locations, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, reach, pull, push, bend and twist.
  • Must have the ability to operate a computer. Must also have the ability to operate other office equipment, such as a copy machine, calculator and computer printer
  • Must be able to communicate accurate information
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 10lbs
  • While this position will primarily serve one campus, this position may require travel to additional campuses associated with Atlanta Mission for training and cross training purposes.
  • CERTIFICATION OR LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: You must be eligible for a Georgia State license. LMSW, LCSW, LAPC, LPC, LAMFT, LMFT

Responsibilities

  • Orients clients to the counseling process, guidelines, and expectations
  • Works with an individual client caseload to conduct clinical evaluations, screenings, assessments, and individual sessions to address emotional needs
  • Manages initial and ongoing personalized service planning for emotional goals
  • Documents progression towards emotional goals.
  • Facilitates assigned therapeutic group sessions with clients and members of clients’ support system
  • Leads process or psycho-educational groups on various topics related to emotional mental health
  • Provides counseling services that include individual, group, and family
  • Assist with crisis intervention management through the utilization of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques. When necessary, assist in the evaluation for involuntary assessment and interventions.
  • Communicates client status updates through verbal or written communications utilizing Microsoft Outlook and Salesforce as part of multidisciplinary team engagement
  • Participates in weekly team meetings to discuss case consultations.
  • Participates as necessary in design meetings to inform continuous learning process of clinical services.
