About The Position

Lyon College invites applications for an immediate appointment as the full-time head coach of its men’s basketball program. The primary responsibilities of the head coach include game day preparation, conducting practices, scheduling games, and recruiting for the women’s basketball program. Additional responsibilities include teaching a limited number of physical education courses and other duties as assigned. Applicants must have a combination of at least five years of collegiate basketball coaching/playing experience and an understanding of recruiting student athletes at a small, liberal arts college. A bachelor’s degree is required with a preference for a master’s degree.

Responsibilities

  • Practice and game preparation.
  • Team travel.
  • Scheduling (with approval from Director of Athletics).
  • Equipment care, purchasing and inventory.
  • Recruitment and retention of quality student athletes and the meeting of recruiting goals as set forth by the Director of Athletics.
  • Assisting in making annual sports budget.
  • Team selection.
  • Making suggestions for changes in the policies and procedures that relate to that sport.
  • The completion of all forms for men’s basketball as required by the NCAA D3, NAIA and the college’s chosen athletic conference on eligibility, recruiting and practice activities (overseen by the AD).
  • The planning and conducting of activities (clinics, workshops, camps, etc.) that will stimulate interest in that sport.
  • Being active in professional organizations particular to their sport. Attend all professional and departmental meetings.
  • The supervision of assistant coaches and student managers for their sport.
  • Overseeing a yearly fund-raising activity for men’s basketball. Income can be used to supplement activities or purchases for men’s basketball. (All fund-raising activities must be approved by the Director of Athletics.
