Men's Basketball, Assistant Coach (Full-Time, 12-Month)
About The Position
The position is for a full-time, 12-month Assistant Coach for Men's Basketball at Long Beach State Athletics. It is a 1-year renewable appointment, effective on or about May 20, 2026. The role involves assisting the Head Coach with various aspects of the Men's Basketball program, including player development, recruitment, practice planning, game strategy, academic monitoring, budgetary responsibilities, strength and conditioning coordination, compliance, marketing, and fundraising. The coach is expected to adhere to NCAA Division I, Big West Conference, and University rules, regulations, and policies. The salary range for this classification is $93,960 to $153,252 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Prior athletic participation in Basketball
- Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including Black/African American, Latine/x, Native American/Indigenous, low-income, first-generation, and minoritized students.

Responsibilities
- Assist with the development and supervision of the student-athletes in the Men’s Basketball program
- Assist the program in accordance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, Big West Conference, and University rules, regulations and policies.
- Recruit student-athletes in accordance with NCAA regulations and academic standards, as well as University requirements
- Assist with scheduling nationally competitive teams in conjunction with the Head Coach
- Assist in the planning and coordinating of in-season practices, including team and individual workouts
- Assist in the planning and coordinating of out-of-season practices, including individual skill instruction and team workouts, focusing on the development of athletic skills to compete at the Division I level.
- Assist in monitoring the academics of each of the Men’s Basketball student-athletes
- Effectively communicate with Athletics Academic Advisor to ensure any academic concerns are being addressed
- Assist with the planning and implementing of game plans, including development of scouting reports of opponents
- Assist with budgetary responsibilities including recruitment, team travel, and equipment
- Coordinate strength and conditioning program with assigned Strength and Conditioning Coach
- Complete all necessary compliance forms as required and/or requested by the Athletics Compliance Office in a timely manner
- Support all marketing activities of the Department of Athletics for the Men’s Basketball program
- Participate in fund raising activities for the Men’s Basketball program and/or Department of Athletics
- Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, faculty, staff, media, and friends of the university
- Perform computer related tasks
- Perform other duties as assigned by Head Coach and Sport Supervisor
