Reporting to the Director of Membership, the Membership Manager is responsible for managing educational and networking programs for more than 350 patient advocacy organizations and a network of over 600 nonprofit leaders. This role is jointly responsible with the Program Manager and Director for expanding the network of member organizations and increasing their engagement with NORD by developing training and resources for research and capacity building.

  • Create and manage project plans to guide the development of new programs, trainings, and educational activities for our rare diseases non-profit organizational members and their leaders, including managing timelines and execution of deliverables.
  • Manage membership program by providing a high level of customer service to members, processing membership applications and renewals and responding to inquiries and requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Manage the planning and execution of webinars and provide support to in-person membership meetings, including speaker identification and coordination, promotion, hosting and post-meeting recap and archival for members.
  • Collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to create informational/educational resources and support services to aid rare disease nonprofit leaders, Board Members and staff on a variety of topics including but not limited to nonprofit good governance, organizational capacity building, patient-focused drug development, rare disease research, and engagement with community stakeholders such as industry, FDA, NIH and others.
  • Support new member prospecting.
  • Represent NORD at events, in one-on-one meetings and other opportunities as needed, including conferences, meetings, seminars, patient education meetings, and others.
  • Produce departmental reports, tracking outcomes for member outreach, and engagement.
  • Update and maintain portions of NORD’s systems where Membership information is present such as the Website and the CRM.
  • Support the Marketing and Communications Department in the organization’s efforts to engage with Members and promote participation in programs, services, and initiatives.
  • Performs other duties and functions as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public administration, public health or related concentration or combination of education/experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit, health or science sectors, with a preference for candidates with experience working with patient organizations. Rare disease experience a plus.
  • Experience with marketing, communication, promotions and/or sales (membership sales preferred).
  • High level of individual initiative and the ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Solutions-oriented, but with an ability to work collaboratively across teams to resolve challenges.
  • Ability to manage a portfolio of relationships with diverse stakeholders, including patient advocates, nonprofit executives and researchers.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of clientele and audiences such as patients, families, Executive Directors, government officials, researchers, medical professionals and reporters.
  • Ability to promote membership, programs and services to new members and business associates.
  • Excellent technical skills including Microsoft Office & Teams, Salesforce or other CRM, FR50 or other development software.
  • Rare disease experience a plus.
