About The Position

The Major Owens Community Center (MOCC), powered by Asphalt Green, is located in Brooklyn's vibrant Crown Heights neighborhood (see https://majorowenscenter.com/ for more information). We are seeking a Membership and Fitness Manager responsible for the daily operations of the membership sales and fitness departments. This position requires a highly motivated, energized individual with a strong sales background and a positive, solution-oriented management style. Qualified candidates will be able to drive membership growth and retention, meet sales targets, and support staff performance across both functions. The role reports to the Managing Director of Asphalt Green at MOCC. NOTE: This is an on-site role.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in membership sales and/or fitness management, with related administrative experience required.
  • Computer literacy is essential, including familiarity with Microsoft Office 365, EZFacility, Mindbody, and Salesforce.
  • Strong sales background and customer service experience required (fitness, health and wellness, retail, hospitality, or related fields).
  • Genuine passion for fitness, health, and wellness, with the ability to engage and motivate the community.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills with a customer-focused mindset.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain CPR certification within 30 days of employment.

  • Experience onboarding, training, coaching, and developing high-performing teams preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains clear and open communication with the Managing Director and other department heads, working collaboratively to ensure the overall success of Asphalt Green at MOCC.
  • Oversees sales strategy and performance, establishing goals and driving growth for both facility membership and fitness services.
  • Manages the day-to-day operations of Membership Sales and Fitness, providing direction, leadership, and support to staff across both functions.
  • Ensures that the Fitness Center is fully functional, clean, safe, and appropriately staffed, and that all equipment is maintained in good working order. The Fitness Center offers solo and group personal training and features current cardio, free weights, and functional strength equipment.
  • Establishes, tracks, and reports on performance metrics for both departments, while developing and implementing strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Organizes frequent team meetings and conducts regular check-ins to keep staff informed, aligned, and accountable.
  • Directly supervises Personal Trainers and Group Exercise Instructors, ensuring alignment with departmental revenue, utilization, and service goals.
  • Oversees trainer onboarding, scheduling, performance management, and professional development.
  • Supports trainers in driving personal training sales, maximizing session utilization, and improving client retention.
  • Collaborates with trainers to promote solo and group personal training offerings while maintaining high service standards, consistent follow-up, and a strong member experience.
  • Supervises Membership Advisors to ensure membership sales targets, conversion goals, and retention objectives are achieved.
  • Oversees the member sign-up and follow-up process, organizes and leads call drives, monitors sales activity and performance metrics, and coaches Advisors on effective sales practices, customer engagement, and service excellence.
