About The Position

Medication Access Technicians manage patient care by coordinating medication orders, processing prior authorizations, resolving third-party billing issues, facilitating patient assistance programs, and ensuring accurate documentation and communication with patients, providers, and pharmacists to support timely medication access and adherence. This role operates under the supervision of a Pharmacist, Pharmacy Coordinator, or Pharmacy Manager.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year experience as a retail pharmacy technician or equivalent
  • (TSBP) REG PHARMACY TECNICIAN Upon Hire
  • (BLS) BASIC LIFE SUPPORT Upon Hire

  • Basic understanding of clinical terms and ability to complete a chart review Prior Authorization experience Knowledge of prescription insurance structure and plan types

Responsibilities

  • Manage inbound and outbound calls with providers, pharmacies, and patients regarding medication order inquiries, ensuring accurate information is gathered to provide services
  • Investigate and verify insurance benefits and eligibility for pharmacy and medical third-party claims
  • Act as a liaison between providers, pharmacies, and patients to resolve billing issues, address third-party claims, and facilitate patient access to medications and financial assistance programs.
  • Initiate and track prior authorization requests, ensuring accurate prescription data and follow-up with insurance carriers to expedite approvals, appeals, and claim submissions.
  • Coordinate patient care by scheduling orders, verifying patient and payment information, communicating shipment details
  • Provide pharmacy support by coordinating consultations with pharmacists, following up on prescription transfers, and ensuring patients receive medications as prescribed.
  • Coordinate and support administrative aspects of patient assistance programs, facilitating the application and acquisition of free or reduced-cost medications while serving as a liaison between patients and clinic medical staff.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, documenting all activity and communications to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational standards.
  • Track, report and escalate service issues arising from requests for authorizations, financial assistance or other issues that delay service.
  • Perform additional tasks as required to maintain workflow and to meet business needs.
