About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Technician performs patient testing, donor processing, blood component labeling, and routine laboratory maintenance in accordance with established procedures, safety practices, and regulatory requirements. This role supports the production and release of safe, high-quality blood products while meeting customer expectations and contributing to continuous improvement within the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Associate of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or an equivalent credential.
  • ASCP or NCA certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Blood Bank Technologist is preferred.
  • Familiar with, or able to learn, cGMP, AABB, and FDA regulations.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong team-oriented attitude are essential.
  • Participation in a rotating on-call schedule, flexibility, adaptability, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid Texas driver’s license, proof of insurance with required levels of coverage, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to remain focused and make sound decisions in a busy or noisy environment
  • Ability to multitask effectively
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work safely in an environment where biohazardous materials may be present
  • Lift up to 25 pounds
  • Maintain strong attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Performs all patient testing functions, including ABO testing, antibody screens, antibody identification work-ups, antigen typing, and crossmatching.
  • Processes apheresis platelet products and Acrodose platelet manufacturing according to manufacturer guidelines and in compliance with FDA and AABB standards.
  • Manages the timely and accurate receipt of donor testing results from ETF and ensures that all components are properly labeled for distribution.
  • Works as part of a collaborative team to support the efficient release of safe blood products and follows all procedures for testing, maintenance, safety, and quality control with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ensures compliance with good manufacturing practices, SOPs, and regulatory requirements, seeking guidance from department leadership whenever questions arise.
  • Completes all required proficiency and competency assignments within designated timelines, maintain a clean and safe work environment, and assist with validation protocols as needed.
  • Supports the Laboratory Manager in monitoring reagent usage, maintaining adequate inventory, and learning additional component preparation techniques as required.
