About The Position

The Medical Technologist in Point of Care (POC) is a highly skilled professional who assists with waived and moderate complexity POC testing within the Cayuga Health System. This includes testing equipment, training staff, organizing data, inspecting sites and participating in meetings.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (or equivalent).
  • Licensure: Meets NYS Department of Health requirements and is currently licensed as a Clinical Lab Scientist, and Registered as a Medical Technologist/Clinical Lab Scientist by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.
  • Prior laboratory experience, including Point of Care Testing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Point of Care Supervisor with POC projects.
  • Reviews Standard Operating Procedures for POC testing and assists with internal and externals audits and offers process improvement suggestions.
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot equipment. Perform validation, linearity and correlation studies, including consultation with manufacturers if problems occur.
  • Utilize complex information systems and interfaces; collect, interpret and review data.
  • Assist with training and recertification programs for all staff using Point of Care Equipment, including using SuperUsers.
  • Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, NYS, TJC, HIPAA standards and infection control/safety guidelines. Assist with internal and external POC proficiency testing, help with recalls and manufacturer changes as indicated. Prepare for applicable inspections.
  • Helps with quality assurance and performance improvement activities and helps maintain inter-and intra-departmental work flow by cooperating with others. Develop effective relationships with users and suppliers, and participate in regular meetings. Keeps lab management team informed of status and concerns.
  • Maintain adequate inventory and conserve resources. Maintain current professional and technical knowledge of Point of Care Testing.
  • Act as a System resource for Point of Care testing at all sites, and frequently work at various Point of Care testing sites. Assure compliance with all Point of Care policies, regulatory agencies, and participate in scheduled and unscheduled inspections.
  • Is flexible in assuming additional responsibilities as assigned.
