Medical Technologist II
About The Position
Medical technologist support high quality laboratory testing in a clinical laboratory. This role involves preparing specimens for testing, performing routine and specialized laboratory tests, conducting quality control, troubleshooting quality control errors and maintenance procedures, recognizing and evaluating computer data problems, troubleshooting laboratory instruments, performing preventative maintenance, and communicating technical information to both medical and lay persons. The technologist will also assist with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures, participate in continuing education, recognize normal and abnormal values, and model Standards of Behavior in daily interactions and activities. This is a full-time, hourly position with 40 scheduled weekly hours within the COL - Lab (DMC) Cost Center at the Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA).
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related medical or scientific discipline with 1 year experience, or Equivalent Work Experience: 3 years
- Must have met the educational requirements for and passed a recognized Certification Examination for Medical Technologist (also known as Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS or Clinical Laboratory Scientist, CLS)
- Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC)
- If not certified, must be registry eligible and successfully obtain certification within the first year of employment
- At least one year of experience in a clinical laboratory
- Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by ASCP BOC or equivalent, or relevant categorical certification
- Internal candidates are required to submit and meet Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements
- External candidates are required to complete Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements within 90 days in position
