About The Position

The primary purpose of the Junior Sequencing Technologist (Medical Laboratory Technologist II) position is to perform dedicated wet laboratory sequencing work within the Sequencing and Bioinformatics Response laboratory within the State Laboratory of Public Health to support epidemiological investigations and surveillance for a variety of pathogens in North Carolina. This position will perform molecular bench work along with the Senior Sequencing Technologist and will work with the supervisor and colleagues to support the expanded sequencing of pathogens within the Infectious Disease Unit. The position will also support validation and method development work, quality assurance, problem resolution, and maintenance of sequencing methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs) within the laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology, chemistry or a biological science from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in a medical laboratory in the assigned area
  • Associate’s degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of medical laboratory experience
  • Completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of medical laboratory experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience
