About The Position

Lead daily operations of a 29-bed medical-surgical unit at a 330-bed acute care hospital and Level III Trauma Center in Manchester, New Hampshire, serving southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. This RN Manager role provides hands-on leadership in a facility recognized for advanced cardiac care through a nationally recognized heart and vascular institute and innovative women's services with a pioneering couplet-care birthing center. The position reports to the Director and focuses on patient satisfaction, quality outcomes, staff development, and fiscal responsibility. Manchester offers New England charm, four-season recreation, excellent schools, no state income tax, and proximity to Boston, mountains, and coastline.

Requirements

  • Current New Hampshire RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
  • Minimum 1-3 years of related acute care experience in medical-surgical or telemetry nursing
  • Strong clinical expertise in medical-surgical patient populations
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday days with no weekend requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from accredited program
  • Previous charge nurse or leadership experience in acute care settings
  • Experience with Level III Trauma Center operations
  • Strong budget management and financial acumen

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of medical-surgical unit including scheduling, patient rounding, and ensuring optimal patient satisfaction and care experience.
  • Maintain expert clinical knowledge and serve as resource for staff regarding medical-surgical and telemetry nursing practices.
  • Work collaboratively with Director to guide department growth, patient satisfaction, physician relations, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Supervise and direct delivery of patient care and care-related services in accordance with administrative policies, hospital vision, mission, and strategies.
  • Interview, hire, and onboard qualified personnel to build high-performing medical-surgical teams.
  • Assess and evaluate employee work performance, implement learning and performance improvement plans, and complete annual staff evaluations.
  • Counsel staff and implement disciplinary processes when indicated, including performance improvement plans and termination decisions.
  • Assist with competency development, skills validation, and continuing education for nursing staff.
  • Provide leadership in compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, national nursing standards, and specialty nursing standards.
  • Assist with patient flow coordination to ensure efficient throughput and bed management across the unit.
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and implement evidence-based practices to improve clinical results and quality metrics.
  • Assist Director with unit budget development, monitoring, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain quality audits, monitor daily core measures, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain supply management to ensure cost-effective resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with staff, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to create a system of safe, quality healthcare delivery.
