About The Position

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) plays a crucial role in the Health Administration Service (HAS) at the Department of Veterans Affairs. This position is responsible for managing various administrative aspects of patient care, including scheduling appointments, processing patient information, and ensuring high-quality customer service. The AMSA's work directly impacts patient access to care and the overall efficiency of healthcare delivery within the VA system.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Six months of experience in clerical, office, customer service, or administrative work.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare processes.

  • Familiarity with scheduling systems or appointment calendars.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and schedule patient appointments using advanced clinic access principles.
  • Collect and update patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Assist in consult scheduling and patient processing.
  • Provide excellent customer service as a receptionist, both in-person and over the phone.
  • Monitor and report on patient flow and access issues to improve service delivery.
  • Participate in team huddles and meetings to address patient care needs and operational challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with administrative processes and guidelines related to patient care.
  • Conduct daily rounds in assigned clinic areas and assist with off-site clinic operations as needed.
