About The Position

The Medical Scheduler assists staff and physicians by scheduling patients for appropriate follow-up appointments and necessary tests and procedures. This role functions as a member of the healthcare team, with responsibilities commensurate with educational preparation and demonstrated competencies. Direct patient interaction is provided to patients of all ages. UofL Health is a fully integrated regional academic health system with nine hospitals, four medical centers, Brown Cancer Center, Eye Institute, nearly 200 physician practice locations and more than 1,000 providers in Louisville and the surrounding counties, including southern Indiana. Additional access to UofL Health is provided through a partnership with Carroll County Memorial Hospital. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED/Equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of scheduling in a multi-specialty clinic

Responsibilities

  • Schedule follow up/return visits to our office for patients.
  • Obtain appropriate pre-certification and pre-authorizations, as needed.
  • Schedule medical tests and procedures for patients. (i.e. - interventional invasive cardiology procedures, electrophysiology, etc.)
  • Discuss patient instructions for procedures with patient so patient has clear understanding of what is expected.
  • Calls patients to schedule procedures and give instructions over phone with follow-up letter with instructions.
  • Use Allscripts, Centricity Business, online paging systems.
  • Retrieve information from other hospital systems.
  • Holds in confidence all matters concerning patients according to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Exhibits friendly and helpful behavior.
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned
