Position Summary: The Medical Records Technician, is an administrative professional who compiles, organizes, and processes patients' medical records. This roles focus is excellent patient customer service, ensuring integrity of the medical record, and complying with confidentiality and HIPAA standards.

Requirements

  • Education: High School diploma or GED required. Associate's degree in health information management preferred.
  • Experience: 1+ year experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
  • 1+ years of Cerner experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terms, coding systems, and classification standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with healthcare professionals and staff.
  • Efficiently manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines.
  • Uphold strict confidentiality and ethical standards in handling patient information.

Responsibilities

  • Compiles, organizes, and processes paper/electronic documents into the EMR or appropriate place.
  • Provide clerical assistance through answering incoming telephone calls to ensure quality customer service.
  • Analyze the content of health records to ensure complete and appropriate documentation that complies with policies.
  • Process requests for patient information by accurately applying policy when answering all requests to protect the confidentiality and security of all medical records for the benefit of the patient, hospital, and care providers.
  • Conducts focused audits of information in the EMR according to established procedure.
  • Collaborates and communicates effectively with clinical staff and other departments to deliver high quality patient care information.
  • Maintain the integrity of the patient's medical record by ensuring all documentation oversights are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Employee is responsible for all other duties as assigned for which competency has been demonstrated
