About The Position

The Medical Receptionist 1 serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors within a healthcare setting, playing a critical role in ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience. This position is responsible for managing patient check-ins, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate patient records, which directly supports the smooth operation of medical services. The role requires effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to facilitate seamless coordination of care. Attention to detail and confidentiality are paramount, as the receptionist handles sensitive patient information in compliance with healthcare regulations. Ultimately, the Medical Receptionist 1 contributes to the overall patient satisfaction and operational efficiency of the healthcare facility. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a customer service or administrative role, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Basic proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain patient confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Medical Receptionist or Medical Administrative Assistant.
  • Experience with specific EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare billing processes.
  • Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the community.
  • Training in customer service or patient relations within a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and welcome patients and visitors promptly and courteously upon arrival.
  • Manage patient appointment scheduling, cancellations, and rescheduling using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Verify patient information, update records, and ensure accuracy of demographic and insurance data.
  • Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate medical or administrative personnel.
  • Collect and process patient co-payments and other payments as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Coordinate with clinical staff to prepare patients for appointments and communicate any delays or changes.
  • Perform general administrative duties such as filing, faxing, and managing correspondence.
