About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions statewide, which house approximately 5,800 inmates. The department's focus includes inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral health care, re-entry services, and community programs, and is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Hiring range is $20.474 - $30.181/hour. Pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved. Additional $3/hour facility differential for hours worked.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an approved educational program for Medical Radiographers and licensed in the State of Nebraska as a Medical Radiographer.
  • Legal Requirements: Licensed as a Medical Radiographer as required by Nebraska Revised Statute 71-3507.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam and, at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test.
  • Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.

Responsibilities

  • Under limited supervision, schedules and conducts x-ray examinations of organs, bones, and tissues
  • Operates and maintains equipment
  • Maintains files and supply inventories
  • Schedules patients for x-rays to comply with requests for physicians, physician assistants, and nurses
  • Explains procedures to patients, positions them in proper postures, and instructs in proper breathing techniques during examinations to ensure good results
  • Adjusts equipment and settings to obtain desired ionizing radiation and exposes film to get a good picture
  • Records, send for interpretation and maintains files of x-rays
  • Does minor maintenance and/or calls qualified maintenance technician to make necessary repairs or adjustments
  • Records activity in daily ledgers to have a history and data for preparing required reports
  • Orders and stores required supplies to ensure an adequate inventory for continuous operation
  • Issues and has dosimetry film read quarterly to ensure staff aren't subject to over exposure
  • Positions patients, adjusts controls, and administers contrast materials to assist radiologist in fluoroscopic examinations
  • Files reports in master files to ensure ready access when needed for diagnosis
  • Will perform duties primarily in Lincoln but will travel to Omaha and Tecumseh as needed.
