About The Position

The Medical Provider’s primary responsibility is to evaluate opioid use disorder and to prescribe and adjust appropriate opioid use disorder treatment medications as indicated. These include methadone, buprenorphine/naloxone, and naltrexone. Medical Providers also evaluate and treat other co-occurring substance use disorders when indicated. The individual in this position shall be an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner with current licensure in the State of Washington. This Clinic believes that Medication Assisted Treatment is the most evidence-based and patient-centered model of care for treating opioid use disorder. The Medical Provider should adhere to and value the philosophical priorities of Harm Reduction and treat all patients with respect, compassion, and dignity. The Medical Provider will report directly to the Medical Director.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioners shall be certified and licensed as a nurse practitioner in the state of Washington.
  • All Medical Providers must have Schedule II - V prescriptive authority from the State of Washington.
  • At least one year of experience treating substance use disorders is desired.
  • Applicants should have experience in, comfort with, and desire for working with patients with substance use disorders, behavioral health diagnoses, and socioeconomic challenges, as well as a basic knowledge of the properties and side effects of opioid use disorder treatment medications and other substances used by our population.
  • Obtain and maintain a Level 3 Kalispel Tribe of Indians Work Permit
  • Have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, electronic medical records systems, and a high level of initiative in keeping current with technological change.
  • Be willing to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, and outside contacts from a wide variety of ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds and possess strong conflict-resolution, interpersonal communication, and time management skills.
  • Comply with all other testing, screening, and credentialing as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in treating opioid use disorder is preferred.
  • Experience working within an Opioid Treatment Program will be given hiring preference.
  • DATA waiver for prescription of buprenorphine is desired but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure implementation of all clinic policies and procedures; recommend policy and procedure updates and changes as necessary.
  • Ensure timely and complete documentation of treatment records, medication security, and any other documentation required by federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Ensure that the clinic protects the rights and confidentiality of all patients.
  • Conduct intake medical assessment and diagnosis and determine initial medication choice and dose.
  • Conduct patient dose evaluations and change medications as indicated.
  • Conduct thorough physical examinations and make appropriate recommendations for follow-up.
  • Document findings and decision-making about care in electronic health record
  • Maintain timely and appropriate communication and attend meetings as requested.
  • Facilitate appropriate communication and referrals with outside medical providers for needed care and follow-up.
  • Evaluate, as necessary, patients with urgent or emergent medical needs and determine if further medical assistance is necessary.
  • Write medical orders for all take-home privileges, seeking regulatory exceptions as necessary.
  • Comply with other ad hoc requests and projects as assigned.
  • Maintain a strong policy knowledge of and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local rules, laws and regulations regarding Opioid Treatment Programs
  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with CFR-related privacy principles and HIPAA policies and procedures
  • Participate in federal and state substance use disorder training and continuing education as needed to safely and effectively perform in the position.
  • Interact with all staff in a positive and motivational fashion supporting the clinic’s mission and commitment to patient experience.
