About The Position

As an academic medical center with a rich history of providing life-saving treatment in Southern Nevada, UMC serves as the anchor hospital of the Las Vegas Medical District, offering Nevada's highest level of care to promote successful medical outcomes for patients. We are home to Nevada's ONLY Level I Trauma Center, Designated Pediatric Trauma Center, Burn Care Center, and Transplant Center. We are a Pathway Designated facility by ANCC, and we are on our journey to Magnet status. Position Summary: Responsible for planning dosimetry and optimizing radiation treatments, ensuring patients receive the correct dose, and monitoring radiation exposure levels of staff and patients. Works directly with radiology residents, fellows, and faculty while participating in a patient's diagnosis and treatment. Assists with Radiation safety program reviews and assists, develops, plans, and research projects with residents and faculty in the areas of radiation safety by optimizing imaging protocols. Develops and presents physics curriculum for residency didactics.

Requirements

  • Master's degree with specialized training in medical physics, physics, or related field, and three (3) years of experience in diagnostic clinical application in medical physics.
  • Board certification by the American Board of Radiology and certified by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board.
  • Advanced radiology equipment and software; in equipment certification (acceptance testing, annual testing), shielding calculations, site planning, and technologist QA/QC in Nuclear Medicine; adult and pediatric care, equipment, supplies and practices; federal, state, local and accreditation laws, regulations and standards; principles and practices of medical care management and administration; quality assurance and performance improvement principles and methods; department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in general diagnostic radiology, ER and acute inpatient cases, with efficiency to be able to read high volumes; development of curriculum; effective presentation skills; using computers and related software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
