The Radiation Oncology Physicist ensures safe delivery of optimal radiation treatment to patients. The position provides abundant opportunities for collaboration with radiation oncology colleagues in the wider Banner and MD Anderson networks. The physicist verifies proper calibration, operation, and safety of radiation-producing machines and sources in accordance with established guidelines and protocols. The physicist ensures accuracy, quality, and safety of radiation therapy treatments. This includes reviewing treatment plans, assisting and supporting dosimetry and therapy staff, and performing measurements and evaluations as necessary. They physicist works with an interdisciplinary radiation oncology team to plan and deliver advanced specialized therapies such as HDR brachytherapy, SBRT, and SRS. The physicist collaborates with department staff and physics colleagues to evaluate, commission, and implement new technologies. The physicist ensures all radiation safety standards and regulatory requirements are met, and maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors. The physicist applies independent judgement and learned methodologies while operating within established policies and procedures. The physicist assists in staff continuing education and physics resident training.
