Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars, IA has a full-time position (40 hours per week) in our Laboratory Department for a Lead Medical Lab Scientist or Lead Medical Technician in Chemistry and Microbiology. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or an Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • 2 years of Microbiology experience required.
  • Previous experience in a hospital laboratory setting is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist from the ASCP or AMT required within 12 months of hire.
  • BLS a plus; certification is required as an employee.
  • Mandatory Reporter training certificate a plus; certification is required as an employee.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a resource to lab staff, maintains inventory for the chemistry and microbiology departments, trains new staff, and conducts competencies for staff.
  • Updates policies and procedures and activates troubleshooting procedures when necessary.
  • Provides phlebotomy on adults, children, and infants by venipuncture or capillary methods and direct arterial punctures.
  • Performs routine and special laboratory testing, recording, and test results reporting within established turnaround time.
  • Interpret analytical findings/results to assess compliance with hospital and industry standards.
  • Performs specimen collection, handling, processing, and testing following established procedures.
  • Performs instrument maintenance, calibrations, and function checks.
  • Assists in evaluating new tests and/or new procedures; perform quality control, proficiency testing and remedial action for unacceptable results.
