About The Position

Join our team at UPMC West Shore! We're hiring a Part-Time Medical Lab Technician or Medical Lab Scientist for evening shifts (2:15 pm-10:45 pm), including every 3rd weekend and rotating holidays. Eligible positions offer up to a $7,500 sign-on bonus! In this role, you'll perform routine and STAT lab tests that support patient diagnosis, treatment, and care outcomes. Requirements

  • Medical Lab Technician (MLT)
  • Associate's degree in laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) OR Bachelor's in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical lab science with 6 months clinical lab experience.
  • Equivalent education/experience per CLIA '88 for high complexity testing also accepted.
  • Medical Lab Scientist (MLS)
  • Bachelor's degree plus completion of a CAHEA-accredited Medical Technology program OR ASCP categorical certification OR 2 years' MLT-equivalent clinical lab experience.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA) certification preferred. New York license required for NY locations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional, courteous communication with all lab customers and colleagues.
  • Collect, process, and analyze specimens accurately, following established protocols.
  • Recognize and respond to critical or abnormal test results; troubleshoot instruments and processes as needed.
  • Perform Moderately Complex/Waived tests independently; conduct High Complexity tests under supervision.
  • Maintain quality control, equipment, and supplies while following safety and compliance standards.
  • Support training and mentorship of new employees, students, and residents.
  • Demonstrate reliability, independent judgment, and commitment to high-quality patient care.
