JOB SUMMARY The Medical Laboratory Technician (MI) performs laboratory procedures in all areas the general laboratory; responsible for performing and evaluating quality control, performing routine maintenance, identifying, and resolving system problems, and assuring the quality of test results; maintains competency in recognizing the interdependency of tests and conditions that affect test results, participates in continuing education, works cooperatively as a member of the team. JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation. Minimum Required: Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology or equivalent. Preferred/Optional: None EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Minimum Required: Medical Technicians must be able to work and make sound judgments with minimal direct supervision; perform and document testing reliably and according to procedure; evaluate complex systems utilizing quality control techniques; communicate effectively, and prioritize appropriately. Preferred/Optional: One-year clinical experience preferred. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position. Minimum Required: MLT (ASCP) certification or eligible. Preferred/Optional: None OR JOB SUMMARY The Medical Technologist performs in-vitro analysis of biologic specimens according to established procedures for routine and specialized areas of the Laboratory. This individual also participates in supportive functions including but, not limited to quality control, instrument operation, troubleshooting, teaching/training and problem resolution. JOB QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation. Minimum Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS), Chemical, physical, or Biological. If Bachelor’s degree is not a Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Scientist program, such as having a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry, then ASCP certification is required at the time of hire or transferring into that role Preferred/Optional: None EXPERIENCE Minimum Required: None Preferred/Optional: Medical Technology student internship highly recommended. Previous laboratory experience is recommended. Experience with Laboratory Information Systems is beneficial. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position. Minimum Required: Certification or eligibility for certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or (AMT) American Medical Technologist. Certification is required within 6 months of hire. Individuals in this role prior to January 1, 2018 are exempt from the ASCP or AMT certification requirement. Categorical certifications are also acceptable which include yet not limited to: Technologist in Chemistry (C ), Technologist in Hematology (H), and Technologist in Microbiology (M).
