About The Position

This job is responsible for ensuring the integrity and acceptability of specimens for testing and / or blood or blood components, performing laboratory test, reporting test results, communicating critical value, differentiating and resolving technical, instrument, physiologic causes of problems or unexpected test results, completing and / or reviewing equipment maintenance and quality control functions, and providing oversight and support of laboratory employees and operations. Actively promotes a lean work culture by performing Team Leader duties to ensure an understanding and consistent use of Lean principles and processes.

Requirements

Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Bachelor degree in Medical Technology, or a science discipline is required, consistent with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) requirements Required
Must be certified or certification eligible in medical technology with acquisition of certification within 12 months of hire, or have special competence in a specific discipline germane to the position, as determined by the Chief of Pathology.
Individuals possessing a bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline other than medical technology (such as biology or chemistry) and who are performing in a specialized area of medical technology (such as molecular testing) and who are seeking categorical certification in this targeted area will have 12 months to complete their certification. Extensions beyond 12 months can be approved by the Chief of Pathology provided competence in patient testing activities is documented in compliance with CLIA. Required

Responsibilities

Determine acceptability of speciments and / or blood or blood components, perform laboratory tests and communicate critical results in accordance with laboratory policy for assigned section or shift and / or obtain and record results for laboratory tests within established TAT as delegated by the Chief of Pathology.
Recognize normal, abnormal, critical test results.
Differentiate and resolve technical, instrument or physiologic cause of problems or unexpected test results.
Serve as technical expert for assigned area, including advanced instrument troubleshooting and repair.
Understand, adhere and promote Lean principles and processes such as standard work and maintaining 5S concept in work area realizing that all processes are driven by the needs of the customer.
Initiate, perform, troubleshoot and monitor quality control and calibrations of reagents and test systems.
Monitor day-to-day analysis to ensure acceptable levels of analytical performance.
Perform and oversee clinical competencies required in section for all employees in accordance with laboratory policy.
Ensure that any employee performing and resulting a laboratory test is competent to do so.
Operate, perform and review daily preventative maintenance of equipment according to written procedures and documents; report equipment malfunctions and request service as necessary.
Communicate with physicians, nurses or other requestors by telephone, computer or other method that ensure confidentiality.
Lead instrument and test method validation and correlation studies.
Align daily work with individual, section, departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
Ensure adequate reagent and supply inventory through application of Lean principles.
Write and review policies and procedures dealing with testing and processes in the technical area assigned.
Actively looks for ways to improve standard work processes and shares insights to that end with team members, other team leaders and group leaders with the same level of importance as performing quality technical work.
Promotes sharing of ideas by team members to improve work processes.

Demonstrate knowledge and ownership of current inspection requirements for all application regulatory and accrediting agencies relating to area of responsibility.
Participate in tracers, mock inspections, regulatory review and Quality Assurance meetings as required.
Prepare, conduct, attend and actively participate in shift stand up meetings.
Ensure suggestions offered at stand up meetings and Laboratory Town Hall meetings.
Share knowledge and provide instructions and mentorship to new employees, students, other technologists, technicians and other staff.
Pursue continuing education.
Perform other duties and special projects as requested.
Read and adhere to all laboratory policies and procedures pertaining to section and document understanding of such.
