Overview Provide accurate and complete interpretation services to facilitate oral communication between Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients, families and CM staff. Supports patient safety and ensures that LEP individuals have meaningful access to information and equal opportunity to participate in services. A limited number of employees in this position are eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. A hybrid schedule will only be offered to employee(s) who have undergone an application/screening process. The selected candidates will work with leadership to determine how time is split between remote and in-office work, based on business need. New employees must be willing to be vaccinated if found non-immune to measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) and chicken pox (varicella) and/or without evidence of tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) vaccination since 2005. If you are selected for this position, you will be asked to supply your immunization records as proof of vaccination. If you and have any concerns about receiving these vaccines, medical and/or religious exemptions can be further discussed with Human Resources.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent and 1-2 years in a Direct experience as a Medical Interpreter (preferred) or in a position that required bilingual ability.
  • Passing score on language skills competency exam, bilingual interview and role playing.
  • Or HS diploma or equivalent or Completion of Pediatric Medical Interpreter Training Program at Children's Mercy
  • National Certification Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate, complete and impartial interpretation services for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients, family members and CM staff.
  • Models exemplary customer service through the delivery of interpretation services to patients, families and CM staff that is consistent with the philosophy, mission, vision and values of the department and organization.
  • Performs other duties and participates in other projects or committees that support hospital and departmental priorities or activities.
