About The Position

Manages individualized, goal-directed, professional nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Current RN - Nevada State Board of Nursing License.
  • BLS Certification.
  • ACLS Certification.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Must show Initiative, maturity, and effectiveness in dealing with people.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Obtains medical history and documents clearly in the patient record.
  • Reviews findings with the Radiologist on duty as necessary.
  • Performs systems assess1nent at designated and appropriate intervals on all assigned patients.
  • Verification of patient identity.
  • Verification of patient's allergies, NPO status and whether the patient has voided.
  • Verification of procedure, procedure site, radiologist and consents.
  • Assesses psychological status, including level of understanding, perception of procedure and anxiety level.
  • Assesses pain level on all patients on Initial assessment including: location, severity, intensity, and quality, and reevaluates in response to interventions.
  • Collaborates with radiologist and technologist to ensure an optimal procedure.
  • Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic plan of care In collaboration with each patient.
  • Develops patient/family teaching and discharge plan, ensuring patient/family is adequately informed of post­ procedure Instructions.
  • Follows procedures/preferences for radiologist's interventions.
  • Communicates with and keeps family informed.
  • Performs a follow-up phone call within 72 hours of interventional procedures.
  • Demonstrates the skills and judgment necessary to initiate appropriate nursing actions, based on assessment findings, for the care of the patient.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital policies and procedures for administering, transcribing, and recording medications.
  • Demonstrates safe administration and knowledge of medications including: action, dose, and side effects.
  • Observes 5 R's for administering medications: right patient, right drug, right dose, right method, and right time.
  • Demonstrates proper procedures in all methods of medication administration.
  • Initiates and maintains IV access according to hospital policy and procedures.
  • Administers Moderate Sedation under the direct supervision of the Radiologist on duty per hospital policy and procedure.
  • Identifies priorities and executes nursing care accordingly.
  • Provides emotional support and comfort measures.
  • Applies and monitors principles of aseptic technique throughout the interventional procedure.
  • Ensures safe transfer/transport of patient at all times.
  • Maintains up-to-date accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the health care team, to ensure quality care.
  • Nursing assessment is complete and accurate.
  • Medication administration record must reflect full signature and title of nurse administering medication, time given, reason for omission, and site for injection (if applicable).
  • Demonstrates proper documentation of narcotics; ensures all wastage is witnessed.
  • Accurately and promptly documents unusual occurrences noted and actions taken.
  • AH areas of nursing record are complete.
