About The Position

AKIVA is seeking a Medical Equipment Planner to support the VA Long Beach Healthcare System Engineering Service Planning Section under the Interior Design Section. The Medical Equipment Planner will independently plan and execute equipment planning services for major construction project activations — including equipment specification, budgeting, solicitation package preparation, procurement, and management of delivery and installation for medical and supporting equipment across VALBHS healthcare environments. AKIVA-provided AI-assisted analysis and documentation tools may be used to accelerate inventory analysis, reuse reporting, and specification drafting.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the state of the art in medical technology including scientific advances, network protocols, and vendor changes
  • Ability to write equipment specifications and Statements of Work for medical equipment procurement
  • Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Experience creating and maintaining procurement collateral using the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of TJC, NFPA, FDA, NRC, and AAMI standards
  • Effective written and verbal communication with contractors, management officials, vendors, Contracting Officers, and VA Long Beach staff
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Independently create and execute equipment planning services for conference rooms, patient care rooms, patient treatment rooms, waiting rooms, entry lobbies, cafe, break rooms, clean and soiled utility rooms, medication rooms, storage, and stockrooms throughout major construction projects
  • Analyze architectural drawings, equipment schedules, and electrical and data plans; identify overlaps and gaps between proposed equipment and the designed space
  • Perform existing equipment inventory audits, value/cost analysis, and comparative equipment studies; produce reuse analysis reports with recommendations based on VA guidelines
  • Coordinate, plan, document, and schedule the move of existing equipment in conjunction with procurement and installation of new equipment
  • Administer and oversee medical equipment planning budgets, standards, and specifications across VALBHS major construction projects
  • Produce procurement packages following VA contracting standards including SOW, technical specifications, attachments, documentation, drawings, IGCEs, bid sheets, and budgets
  • Maintain the digital resource library of drawings, plans, specification procurement documents, project correspondence, and binders related to major project equipment planning
  • Provide training and education to medical technology end users and clinical staff during move-in; coordinate with the VA Biomedical Department and Logistics to document products into the Equipment Information Library
  • Maintain functional knowledge of safety codes and standards including The Joint Commission (TJC), NFPA, FDA, NRC, and AAMI
  • Serve as technical representative for equipment specification matters; coordinate with FMS, OIT, Patient Safety, Sterile Processing Service (SPS), Logistics, Contracting, Informatics, EMS, Biomedical Technicians, and end users
