About The Position

Works under general supervision to provide technical expertise in radiation therapy treatment planning, operating radiation equipment and radioactive sources commonly employed, and measuring and generating radiation dose distributions and calculations under direction of Radiation Therapy Physicist and/or Radiation Oncologist. Performs treatment planning of conventional or 2D, 3D, IMRT, VMAT and SBRT plans. Consults with physicians to explain and review details, then finalize plan as agreed upon. Prints plan and exports to record and verify system. Responsible for the accuracy of the treatment plans and charts they create. Provides technical assistance to medical physicists, radiation therapists and physicians regarding implementation of treatment plans which they have created. Follows dosimetry team's policies, procedures and quality assurance methods. Provides input as new procedures and workflows are created within the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in physical or biological science
  • No experience required
  • (CMD) Certified Medical Dosimetrist by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) within two (2) years of becoming Medical Dosimetrist I

Responsibilities

  • Performs treatment planning of conventional or 2D, 3D, IMRT, VMAT and SBRT plans. Consults with physicians to explain and review details, then finalize plan as agreed upon.
  • Prints plan and exports to record and verify system. Responsible for the accuracy of the treatment plans and charts they create.
  • Provides technical assistance to medical physicists, radiation therapists and physicians regarding implementation of treatment plans which they have created.
  • Follows dosimetry team's policies, procedures and quality assurance methods.
  • Provides input as new procedures and workflows are created within the team.
  • Develops their planning skills by working under the guidance of Medical Dosimetrist II, III, Chief Dosimetrist or Director of Treatment Planning on more challenging cases.
  • Keeps current on new treatment planning techniques/methods.
  • Follow clinical protocols as described in protocol guidelines and submit data (when required) in a timely manner.
  • Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
