JOB SUMMARY The rate for this position is $175/hour. The hours required will average 10 hours/week or less. The Medical Director is an experienced physician responsible for the evaluation of standards of medical care throughout the agency. Provides technical expertise, medical guidance, and overall support to the Mesa County Public Health staff, volunteer physicians, and students/interns. Meets regularly with the Executive Director to advise on medical policy and practices. The Medical Director acts as a liaison with the local medical community and is an advocate for public health in our community.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited medical school (MD or DO).
  • Four (4) years of program specific experience; public health experience highly preferred.
  • OR Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.
  • Current (unexpired) license to practice medicine in the State of Colorado.
  • Current DEA license
  • Current Medicaid provider number, and will authorize Mesa County to use Employee's Medicaid provider number on claims as supervising physician.
  • Current Board Certification in a primary care speciality (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine)
  • Advanced knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications including, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Google Applications including Gmail and Drive.
  • EHR experience and ability to learn Patagonia EHR
  • This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • May be exposed to communicable diseases and infections.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the Public Health Director, when requested, on medical aspects of a wide variety of public health issues.
  • Clinical services offered by MCPH
  • Communicable disease and other public health threats and outbreaks
  • Implementation of MCPH Strategic Plan goals
  • Fulfill duties of Family Planning Medical Director requirements as described in the Title Administrative and Clinical Manuals issued by Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
  • Review of Title X Administrative and Clinical Manuals at least annually and when updates are published.
  • Issue standing orders and discuss with staff, as appropriate.
  • Attest to MCPH Family Planning providers’ prescribing experience or act as a preceptor for prescribing experience, in accordance with C.R.S. Title 12-38-111.6, as necessary.
  • Conduct periodic chart review in accordance with the Title X manual, to include 10% of charts, for Quality Assurance focusing on clients with abnormal lab work, provider use of standing orders, dispensing and administrative therapeutics carried out by RNs, Midwives, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, with and without prescription writing authority.
  • Fulfill physician duties in immunizations clinic: Issue standing orders and discuss with staff, as necessary, for administering vaccines at MCPH.
  • Issue standing orders and discuss with staff, as necessary, for medical management of vaccine reactions in children and adults.
  • Review and sign annual Vaccine for Children annual recertification documents and complete annual trainings.
  • Fulfill physician duties in disease investigation and emergency response.
  • Be available 7 days a week to authorize prescriptions in response to communicable disease cases and outbreaks.
  • Advise Public Health Director and staff, when requested, on medical aspects of disease of public health concern (like TB).
  • Fulfill physician duties with Home Visiting Programs as required for Medicaid billing by issuing standing orders, and collaborate with staff, as necessary, to comply with program requirements.
  • See Patients at least one half day per week in the Public Health Clinic
  • Support newer physician extenders providers with mentorship through Rx mentorship if required
  • Fulfill Lab Director duties for the CLIA certificate for the Regional Laboratory.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
