About The Position

The Medical Director is responsible for providing comprehensive primary care and overseeing all medical services within the facility. The role ensures high-quality, person-centered care while maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations, including ICF/IID, CMS and Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) standards. This position is unclassified in accordance with Section 124.11(A)(14) of the Ohio Revised Code.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive primary care, including physical exams, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and prescribe medications
  • Monitor treatment effectiveness and ensure continuity of care
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate delivery of medical services
  • Ensure compliance with ICF/IID, CMS, and DODD standards
  • Establish and implement medical policies, procedures, and clinical protocols
  • Monitor quality indicators and clinical outcomes using EHR systems (e.g., PointClickCare)
  • Identify risks and implement corrective actions
  • Provide medical consultation to executive leadership
  • Participate in committees (e.g., Infection Control, Pharmacy Review, Human Rights, MUI, Emergency Preparedness)
  • Support audits, surveys, and corrective action planning
  • Coordinate care across interdisciplinary teams (nursing, psychology, QIDPs, direct care staff, families/guardians)
  • Participate in development and implementation of Individual Support Plans (ISPs)
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record
  • Use EHR tools to monitor patient trends and support clinical decision-making
  • Provide guidance and oversight to Certified Nurse Practitioners and other providers
  • Review clinical practices and documentation for compliance and quality
  • Offer consultation on complex cases
  • Coordinate with external providers, specialists, and DODD Central Office
  • Ensure appropriate referrals and continuity of care
  • Contribute to healthcare strategy, quality improvement, and operational initiatives
  • Utilize data and reporting tools to drive performance improvement
  • Support staff education and training on clinical and documentation standards
  • Assist in developing policies aligned with organizational goals
