About The Position

Medical Coding Manager - Stony Brook Internists, UFPC Location: Stony Brook, NY - At the Manager's discretion, this role may be eligible for remote work (2 - 3 days on a rotating schedule after 90 days) Schedule: Full Time Days/Hours: Monday - Friday; 8:30 AM - 5 PM Salary Range: $79,846 - $91,926 (pay will be determined based on experience, preferred qualifications, and education) Our compensation philosophy aims to provide marketable compensation programs and to compensate employees based on relevant experience and education. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents Stony Brook CPMP’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting SUMMARY: The Coding Manager will assist the Department Administrator with the day-to-day operations of the coding unit.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Professional through the AAPC or AHIMA with one or more of the following certifications preferred: Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist – Physician Based (CCS-P)
  • 1 year of documented supervisor experience
  • Ability to communicate with Physicians, Managers and Division Chiefs in a professional manner
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficiency in EMR Systems

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist – Physician Based (CCS-P) certification
  • Proficiency in GE Centricity and Cerner

Responsibilities

  • Act as a resource with regards to coding policies and procedures to both staff and providers.
  • Oversee the activities of assigned employees by communicating and providing guidance towards achieving department objectives.
  • Oversee the coding workflow and processes
  • Oversee the coding QA process
  • Attend meetings and related training sessions
  • Act as liaison and problem solver between physician and staff with regards to coding, charge entry and documentation support
  • Prepare reports related to fiscal, operational issues, or patient care as directed by Department Administrator.
  • Review and monitor coding productivity expectations
  • All other duties as assigned by management
